Mons. Leopoldo Girelli, new Apostolic Nuncio in Israel and Cyprus

The new Apostolic Nuncio in Israel, Bishop Leopoldo Girelli, presented his diplomatic credentials to the President of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, at the presidential residence on November 29, during a diplomatic ceremony in which the ambassadors of Sweden, Portugal and Uruguay participated too.

Bishop Girelli was appointed Nuncio in Israel on September 13, and on September 15, he was also appointed to the same diplomatic office in Cyprus. On December 14, he made his official entry into the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher, where he is officially recognized as the diplomatic envoy of Pope Francis for the Catholics of the Holy Land.
